Details

Named after the Hindu goddess of destruction, Kali, the river rises in Mustang, which is on the northern side of the Himalayan range.
As the Kali Gandaki tumbles down between the majestic Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna ranges, it forges one of the world’s deepest river canyons.
The recent damming of the lower portion of this river has left us with one of Nepal’s premier medium-length river journeys; combining great whitewater with some of the most beautiful scenery in Nepal, seldom-visited villages, abundant wildlife, sandy beaches and beautiful waterfalls.
The rapids on the Kali Gandaki are much more technical and continuous, which will keep paddlers busy all day. Both experienced and novice rafters love this diversity, which is difficult to find on any other 3-day trip
Nice drops, sparkling chutes and turbulent rapids provide class III to IV+ runs during the fall and spring seasons.

Itinerary

Day 1

After our drive to Nayapul, lunch is served at the river beach while our guides make the rafts ready. When lunch over, the chief river guide gives his safety briefing.
Ready yourself to paddle because the biggest rapid of this river, Small Brother, approaches with speed. Another challenging rapid, Big brother, follows immediately. After some grade III+ rapids you will be able to get off downstream and we will set up our camp. Enjoy the starry night and campfire.

Day 2

After a few minutes of rafting, you encounter the grade IV Morning Rapid before paddling down to the next camp facing other rapids. Enjoy panoramic views of the mountain and traditional country life in the world’s deepest river. At the end of this exhilarating day another excellent campsite will be at our disposal.

Day 3

Watch the Nepali landscape as you paddle on the huge waves and rapids until the approach to the dam at Mirmighat. Enjoy lunch here as the guides pack the equipment and drive back to Pokhara, some 4 hours distant.
